Shocking news that doesn't involve LGDs (but maybe should have)

Oddball the LGD famously protected his Little Penguins on the Australian island called Middle Island, starting in 2006. An adorable movie was made about the success of this conservation project that increased the number of Little Penguins into the hundreds from 10. And all is well, according to published stories read around the world.

However, on Maria Island, only 580 miles from Middle Island, Australia, no one is protecting the penguins. NO ONE. And they have been SLAUGHTERED since this program began in 2012.

On Middle Island the number of Little Penguins went from 10 penguins to the 100s.

On Maria Island there are--OR WERE--3,000 penguins. What happened is SLAUGHTER.

Here is one of their BS remarks: "Conservation translocations of endangered predators must consider trade-offs between their protection and potential impacts on non-threatened native prey species."

My question:  "Trade-off" is not the same as SLAUGHTER--why didn't they transfer the Little Penguins from Maria to Middle Island???

Another question:  What are the Tasmanian Devils going to eat now, now that they've eaten the all the Little Penguins???


I've contacted various sources about this story but so far not one of them has responded. I wonder why?

It's too late now, but I wonder if LGDs could have been used to intimidate the species (Tasmanian Devils) in order to maintain the balance of "endangered predators" and "non-threatened native prey species" on Maria Island. Why were the Little Penguins on Middle Island given so much protection while the Little Penguins on Maria Island were LITERALLY THROWN TO THE WOLVES / TASMANIAN DEVILS? We can at least be happy for the Middle Island Little Penguins, but we can't close our eyes to what's happening to the Maria Island Little Penguins as of 2012.
